Large Team Kenya group leaves for Rabat African Games tonight

A CONTINGENT of 158 persons, athletes and officials, are tonight’s Team Kenya’s first departures from Nairobi for the 12th African Games in Rabat Morocco.

The games, coming at the heels of the last edition in 2015 — Brazzaville Congo — will take place in Morocco between August 19-31, 2019. Kenya are expectant to improve on the Brazzaville outing, said Team Kenya chief executive officer Charles Nyaberi in Nairobi on Monday morning.

Most athletes have been camping at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Utalii College, Roasters Restaurant Nairobi, Murang’a County (cycling) and Milele Resort Mombasa (beach volleyball).

Team Kenya will be taking part in 22 of 26 disciplines being contested in Morocco. Of Kenya’s disappointment, though, is that the Moroccan hosts are not staging full-fledged basketball –where the Kenya national men’s team recently historically reached the Final of the African Championship [and instead putting on the rare 3-on-3 version] — field hockey, netball and rugby union football.
