Kenya child turns heads in team headed for Morocco

SHE is a mere child but Jenny Compell Amadi is stealing the limelight of the Kenya national team heading to the 12th African Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Jenny is so little that when she struts around the team camp at Stadion Hotel, Moi International Sports Centre, some people ask: “Whose child is this; what is she doing here?”

But because she wears similar Kenya colours and uniform like others in camp some people wonder aloud: “Do we have a Kenyan gymnastics team?” However, even though there will be a gymnastics competition in Morocco, Team Kenya are not sending any participants.

Jenny is in Team Kenya to play table tennis in Morocco. She is 11-years-old. But because of her total dominance in national U12 and U15 category championships, she impressed selectors. They think she will benefit immensely by competing in top flight competition.

The Nairobi-born Jenny is at primary school at Moi Air Base, Eastleigh, Nairobi. Among Team Kenya whose members include (track and field) world champions Conseslus Kipruto (men’s 3,000m steeplechase) and world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech (women’s 3,000m steeplechase), Jenny tries to be confident. She need not worry because everyone is fond of the ‘child’; admiring her boldness.
