‘Buffa’ carries Kenya 7s as they put in strong Cape Town performance

KENYA SEVENS

Results at Cape Town Sevens:

Won:  24-19 v Samoa

Won:  12-07 v Australia

Drew: 24-24 v Ireland

Quarter-finals:

Lost: 05-12 v South Africa

KENYA had a greatly improved performance at the Cape Town Sevens, going undefeated in pool matches before being stopped 12-5 by South Africa in the Main Cup quarter-finals.

This was following a lukewarm — losing all three games —  outing in the first round of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai. Collecting 11 points in South Africa saw the Kenyans climb two places in the rankings, from  13th to 11th. They will be back in action during the New Zealand (Wellington) round, January 25-26, 2020 and Australia (Sydney) on February 1-2.

Fast-rising Kenya forward Alvin “Buffa” [for Buffalo] Otieno, was again in fine form, scoring four times and having fantastic carries to be drafted alongside forwards JC Pretorius and New Zealand’s Scott Curry as the forwards in the team on Cape Town Sevens.
